Kern County ranks among the worst in the nation when it comes to health.
The rankings from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute were to be officially released Wednesday.
In overall health outcome, Kern County ranked 51 out of 56, with higher rankings indicating worse outcome.
Approximately 24 percent of adults in Kern County reported poor or fair health, compared to 18 percent statewide and 10 percent nationally.
In health factors like smoking, obesity, and number of people killed in crashes Kern County faired the worst.
The number of obese adults in Kern County is 29 percent.. compared to 23 percent statewide and 25 percent nationally. Plus, Kern County had the most unhealthy air quality days during the study year of 2006, a total of 41 days.
