Firefighters 'Fill The Boot' For Local Kids
The Bakersfield Fire Departments, IAFF Local 246 will once again be participating in the "Fill the Boot" campaign to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The Bakersfield Fire Departments "Fill the Boot" participation raises much-needed funds for the MDA including: Repair and loan of medically necessary equipment, MDA Summer Camp, no-cost clinics to their clients, and research projects to find the causes and cures for more than 40 neuromuscular diseases.
Collection for the MDA "Fill the Boot" campaign will take place on the following dates:
Friday, April 15th at the intersection of Stockdale Hwy. & Gosford Road
MDA is proud to be the world leader in the fight against ALS. In 1954 the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) named MDA their "charity of choice," marking the beginning of a formal bond between the IAFF and MDA. Over the last 57 years, firefighters have made helping families living with neuromuscular disease their mission; raising funds with their signature fundraising drive which has contributed over $ 300 million since the partnership was formed.
Local communities play a vital role in supporting these brave men and women in their fight against neuromuscular diseases by driving through posted intersections and filling fire fighter’s boots with any amount for this great cause.
MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education.
