Murph, people don't have the training/education for the jobs we do have available (67% lack more than a high school diploma and they compete for 27% of the available jobs). We have to recruit people to fill our job force while more go unemployed. We have home grown solutions to this, but some leaders like McCarthy don't invest in the programs. Let me guess, you didn't listen to Mr. Phillips in the debate.

The 13% unemployment rate here is for one reason the type of people do not wish to work! My son went out got a high paying job in the last few years, his brother and sister in law went out and got high paying job this year, my daughter in law went out and got a fairly high paying job this year, two of nieces went out and got a job this year! At my wifes work they hire over 100 employees in the last 6 months and I see help wanted signs all over and job posting in the paper and internet in Kern county everyday so why is the unemployment so high? There is only one reason, we have bunch of lazy people that rather collect unemployment or welfare. As for McCarthy I already mailed in my ballot and so did my wife!

I heard a commercial for McCarthy on the radio the other day. I had to laugh. He now claims to be a small businessman. I went to Jr. High with Mr. McCarthy and have watched his political career grow. As far as I can tell, McCarthy is as much a career politician as was his mentor Bill Thomas. McCarthy worked for Thomas' office since his days at CSUB. He continued to work for Thomas until his grooming was complete and he could transition into following in Thomas' footsteps. Do you REALLY think McCarthy got the political positions he has gotten thus far, such as minority whip in the house, based on skills and experience? Lol. If you want to further the already-too-long political career of a career politician vote for McCarthy. If you want a fresh perspective from a person that is less interested in self-promotion and more interested in public service, vote for ANYONE else other than McCarthy. Political office was NEVER intended to be a "career." It was supposed to be that people would go, do their duty, and return to the community. It has now become more about the politician fighting to remain in office for as long as possible, collecting a nice pension and life-time health care at the public's expense and then becoming a lobbyist back in D.C. earning very large retainers. McCarthy has been in long enough and needs a new "career."

Congress has a 10% approval rating and it is because of the corruption, bailouts, and acts like the NDAA which do a way with any due process, and people who are guilty of these things like McCarthy who has never had a real job - tell these career politicians to get a real job - based on the paradigm shift of Congresses record low approval rating and independents as the largest voting block I think there will be double digit non republicrats elected this November 6th 2012 - God save America - almost every single Congressperson voted against the Constitution it is time to hold them accountable - way to go Terry for the win

well, if you think 13% unemployment (which is actually lower than it's been since 2009) and Bakersfield-Delano having the 4th worst poverty rate in the nation is great while under McCarthy's leadership and control of federal funds, then vote for him I guess. His one example of bipartisanship, the Access to Capital thing is more about helping wall st. than main st.. also contradicts his point about the "39 jobs bills" being the senate's fault, because Access to Capital is not included in the list.. senate passed and Obama signed it into law In fact, Obama has claimed that it's HIS bill, lol. If you can prove any twisting of facts by Phillips in his reporting, by all means, put it up.

Hey murph really I think real might have been pointing out how good McCarthy is, he worked under Thomas so he had a great teacher and he has been in government most of his life so McCarthy is the best for the job he know what he is doing, as for Phillips he work for some of the most questionable media agencies that twist facts daily for most of his life, not good, I think I will vote for McCathy also! Thank You RealDB for clearing this up for me!

RealDB, Phillips sure didn't show it in the debate! He looks like a lost child struggling to get through it! Over 40 years of experience is great if you know how to use it, he does not, sorry McCarthy got our vote!

As an Independent, I'm sticking with McCarthy. He's been a strong advocate for us. His wllingness to work in a bipartisan way in DC has proven to me that he is open to negoiations and is not controlled by one specific party. I am concerned with Mr. Phillips, with his past ties with NPR, CBS and NBC. News media agencies that have proven to be questionable in their approach in information delvery and twisting of facts.

Hey Murph, McCarthy only has a few years of experience not working for government. He only has at most 5 years of private sector experience in his 20s, before failing as a small business owner and going to work for Congressman Bill Thomas' staff. He has worked in government for almost his whole life. Terry Phillips has over 40 years of private sector experience and was an executive & international wireless business negotiator @ Omnipoint, along with being a respected foreign correspondent for CBS News before.

I'm an Independent and I think I'll vote for McCarthy, this Phillips seems to be a little out there for the real world! It seems he has never really dealt with real life issues before!
