It is rare to drive down a road or highway in Kern County and not pass a roadside memorial. For those who have lost a loved one in a traffic accident, it is a way to mark the place of tragedy. But, some drivers say the memorials are unsightly distractions.

In a Contact 17 News Investigation, a Bakersfield woman said she is caught in the middle of a financial scandal involving the California Army National Guard, after an investigation found massive fraud in payments to soldiers. Video

A Bakersfield woman e-mailed 17 News more than two years ago about people dumping trash in front of her business. City crews cleaned up the garbage but since then, she said people continue to trash the neighborhood. Video

From a quiet cul de sac to a place police now frequent, people in a southwest Bakersfield neighborhood said they are living in fear as large parties rage outside their doors. But the woman throwing the parties says she has every right to be there. Video

A Bakersfield man says he's having to shut down his business, following a raid by the Kern County Sheriff's Department last month. David Zachary says deputies seized some of his property saying it was stolen and said he was running an illegal business. The Sheriff's Department is remaining tight-lipped about the case, saying the investigation is ongoing. Video
