Several viewers contacted 17 News, wanting to know why the Fight for Life cancer event last weekend had a cigar and smoking lounge.

The organizer of the event, Leslie Knox sent us a statement that reads in part.."We are sorry if some attendees were offended. It's a different type of fundraiser and all people who come to the event must be over 21 years of age. This has never been an issue."

17 News also spoke to Battalion Chief Ross Kelly with the Bakersfield Fire Department.

He says for smoking to be allowed in an enclosed building, there has to be a designated smoking area and an adequate ventilation system.
