Mickey contacted 17 News, wanting to know the status of a proposed shopping center in northwest Bakersfield.

According to Heather Herndon who is affiliated with the project, the "Bakersfield Commons" is coming along.

She says as of now, they are moving along with the project.

The 255-acre development will consist of restaurants, businesses and housing. Organizers say nearly 12,000 jobs will be brought to the local economy.

Major construction at the site should begin next year.
