Calvin in Bakersfield wants to know about a white building on Chester Avenue, between 27th and 28th Streets with an additional smaller building on top with a ladder on the outside.

He asks what was this building used for originally? Ben Geissel, owner of Galbraith Van and Storage, says the elevator shaft extends out the very back top of the building.

So in the case of a potential expansion, the shaft would have been used as container storage for household goods.

The building itself was the headquarters for Galbraith Moving and Storage. They moved to their current location on South Union Avenue in 1965.
